Vice President, Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Executive

An integral member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Vice President, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership in the development and delivery of NYGH’s clinical programs, nursing and interprofessional practice. They will foster and maintain partnerships and relationships with members of the SLT, health care partners, government and agencies, and other stakeholders to leverage, support and collaborate with various health system partners while continuously assessing the external landscape and championing an organizational culture that empowers NYGH’s mission and values and that contributes to a more integrated patient care system that supports the achievement of NYGH’s strategic objectives. The VP Clinical Services & CNE will drive clinical service excellence focused on people-centred care and patient experience, while promoting a culture of innovative practices.

The VP, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive will provide overall direction and strategic leadership for assigned portfolios which include:

  • Cancer, Cardiology & Critical Care Program
  • Emergency Services Program & Nursing Resource Team
  • Maternal Newborn, Paediatrics & Clinical Genetics Program
  • Medicine Program
  • Mental Health Program
  • Surgery Program
  • Interprofessional Practice, Research & Education

 

As Chief Nursing Executive (CNE), responsible for professional nursing practice in the organization and is the representative for the nursing cohort at the senior leadership team (SLT), Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) and serves as a member of the North York General Hospital Board of Governors. Maintains responsibility for the professional practice for the other non-medical, allied health professionals in the organization, and interacts with the professional bodies as required. Engage clinical leadership to achieve clinical excellence, pursue quality initiatives and to lead the transformation and implementation of new models of care. Promote a culture of innovation, change, and accountability within the clinical services programs leadership team. Advocate for the advancement of interprofessional practice, people-centred care, and safety at all levels within the organization and in external partnerships.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a values-driven and visionary leader with a proven history of progressive leadership of hospital clinical programs, health service delivery or equivalent. Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A bachelor’s degree, coupled with a graduate degree in nursing, health policy, or business/health/public administration is required. Extensive experience within a community or academic health sciences hospital including knowledge of relevant health care legislation, framework and regulations. A thorough understanding and appreciation of the complexities and stakeholder dynamics of community teaching hospitals, including the integration of patient care with teaching and research. Excellent leadership skills, understanding and valuing organizational culture and actively works to impact it positively. Commitment and ability to coach, mentor, support and develop high performing and innovative clinical teams and leaders.
