Description

The Educational Developer, Indigenous Pedagogies and Curriculum is the subject matter expert on Indigenous Pedagogy and works in a collaborative team environment to plan and implement professional development programming for faculty, contract lecturers and graduate students. Following a reflective and evidence-based practice, acts as an internal consultant for individuals, groups, and university administration offering expertise in Indigenous pedagogies and curriculum development, as well as anti-racist, anti-oppressive and equity-focused pedagogical practices for face-to-face, technology-enhanced, online, blended, and flexible delivery. Takes a leadership role in advocating for and creating an institutional environment supportive of teaching and learning excellence.

This role is intended for an Indigenous person. To ensure the integrity of our Indigenous recruitment initiatives, shortlisted candidates will be asked to participate in an affirmation process with TMU's Indigenous HR Lead. Candidates will be required to provide one of the following:

  • A valid membership card/membership documentation from a recognized First Nations, Inuit or Métis community or nation, or
  • An official verification letter from a recognized First Nations, Inuit or Métis community or nation, or
  • Contact details for an Administrator from a recognized community or nation who can speak to your membership.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience working with Indigenous communities and protocols related to Indigenous relationships is essential.
  • Experience in developing and implementing professional development programming, resources with an emphasis on Indigenous history, epistemologies, methodologies and cultural practices.
    • Background and grounding in Indigenous ways of knowing, learning, worldviews and pedagogies.
    • Experience in developing faculty programming and curriculum within a postsecondary setting is an asset.
    • Experience teaching in higher education is an asset.
  • Successful completion of a Masters’ degree in Indigenous Studies or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical theories and best practices in learning and teaching in higher education, and relevant course development skills developed through work experience in the university sector as an educator, and ideally, as an academic consultant or educational developer is an asset.
  • Expertise in the planning and implementation of educational development programming at a diverse institution, especially as they relate to Indigenous knowledge translation.
  • Course design, implementation, and assessment skills for face-to-face, online and blended learning.
