JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties: 

* As per IBEW Collective Agreement. 

* A Utility Fleet Mechanic repairs, maintains, modifies and commissions vehicles and equipment, including aerial devices. 

* This includes using telematics to proactively manage maintenance.

Qualifications: 

* As per IBEW Collective Agreement. 

* Must be a red seal certified Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Automotive, and/or Truck and Transport Mechanic. 

* Utility Fleet Mechanics will be provided Utility Fleet Mechanic (UFM) training and become UFM certified. 

* A Utility Fleet Mechanic may be assisted by a Driver/Helper. 

* A valid B.C. driver's license Class 3 with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain same. 

* Certification as a Commercial Vehicle Inspector is preferred.

This position is affiliated with the international Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW local 258) www.ibew258.bc.ca

* This position will service vehicles at the Surrey Vehicle Garage and various locations, as required. 

*This position is posted internally and externally, concurrently. 

*Preference will be given to red seal certified Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, and/or Truck and Transport Mechanic. 

*All Utility Fleet Mechanic are expected to obtain their Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification and Utility Fleet Mechanic certified. 

* You may be required to rotate between shifts in accordance with Article 62.3A of the IBEW Collective Agreement. Shifts are Day Shift: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM; Afternoon Shift 4:00 PM to 12:00. 

* A written exam and a hands on test covering technical, safety, and administrative skills may form part of the selection process. 

* Applicants’ written exam results will be kept on file for a 12 month period and re-used for other MES selection processes during that timeframe in which the same exam is utilized.

Flexible work model role definitions 

=========================== 

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time. 

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home 

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office. 

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week. 

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
