Description

A flourishing community of scholarship and ideas, Massey College, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is a unique intellectual environment – a place where people and ideas intersect. Outstanding graduate and professional students across disciplines share in a rich and stimulating residential community along with senior scholars and eminent members of society beyond the academy. Massey College is a partner with the CBC and House of Anansi Press in the annual CBC Massey Lectures; it annually organizes the Walter Gordon Symposium on Public Policy, the Massey Grand Rounds on medicine and health sciences, and the Franklin Forum in honour of the late physicist Ursula Franklin. The College is home to the William Southam Journalism Fellowships and the Clarkson Laureateship for Public Service, and supports the Scholars-at-Risk program with the School of Graduate Studies. On June 21, 2017, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designated the College’s St. Catherine’s Chapel a Chapel Royal in recognition of the sesquicentennial of Canada and the relationship between Massey College and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

Reporting to the Massey College Governing Board, the Principal is the College’s visionary leader, deeply engaged with the College’s diverse resident and non-resident community, honouring its traditions, spearheading fresh approaches, and ensuring it reflects and serves a changing world. The Principal will continue to advance the College’s strategic goals, catalyze support for renewing its heritage buildings, continue strengthening its affiliation with the University and its relationships with key partners, and develop new collaborations that benefit the Massey College community.

A strategic leader and relationship-builder with deep respect for intellectual and scholarly life, you will lead the College community in realizing its mission to “nourish learning and serve the public good”. An advocate for equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, and deeply committed to fostering Reconciliation, you will be a mentor to the College’s Junior Fellows and promote a vital and collegial academic environment that stimulates fresh ideas for the benefit of society. Your reputation, optimism, curiosity, and engaging communication skills will build exciting new partnerships and deliver unprecedented success for a significant capital campaign.

A believer in intergenerational and interdisciplinary exchange, and a champion of the careers of fine minds, you understand that none of this happens without collaboration, material support, and commitment to the public good. This is an opportunity to inspire a community of high distinction and ensure a vibrant future by evolving and strengthening the College’s financial, physical, and administrative foundations while promoting its internationally recognized and respected programs. The benefits extend far beyond today and far beyond the walls of Massey College.

Massey College is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially encourages applications from members of racialized groups and visible minorities, women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. Throughout the recruitment process, accommodations for applicants with disabilities are available upon request. Please indicate your interest in Project 240229 in confidence at https://caldwell.thriveapp.ly/job/1133. Please note that all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, but applications from Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
